Penwin - historical research, writing and travel

PenWin is the trading name of the freelance writer and researcher Simon Fowler.
Simon Fowler is one of Britain's best known family historians. He is an experienced writer and magazine editor specialising in modern British social and military history.
By training an archivist, Simon has worked at the Public Record Office (now The National Archives) more or less since 1979. He edited Family History Monthly between 2000 and 2004 and then moved to its rival and rather more erudite Ancestors, published by The National Archives - where he has been praised for publishing some fairly obscure topics in a very approachable way.
Simon has published a wide range of well-regarded books from research guides for family historians, including a recent ground breaking title on Military History on the Internet. One, for Pen & Sword, on tracing Army ancestry, is already in its third reprint within months of publication.
Simon has contributed articles to a wide range of publications from Retail Newsagent to Waitrose Food Magazine, but mainly his pieces have appeared in the family and local history press and BBC History Magazine.
He is always looking for new commissions for books and articles. Copy will meet any specifications agreed. It will always be full of fascinating and illuminating facts and thoroughly researched. And, above all, deadlines will be met.
He also offers a research service in historical subjects. He is familiar with The National Archives, British Library, Society of Genealogists and other major (and minor) archives and libraries in London, Oxford and Cambridge.
Simon also organises tours visiting breweries and bars across Europe. At present they are to Belgium and Germany, but if there is enough interest he hopes to run tours to France, Denmark and Finland in the future.
